Okay, we’re gonna hit reset on this puppy.

The end of last year was so crazy for us, and we’ve got so many weddings and shoots that we haven’t managed to get up on the blog.  I’m still going to try and get back to some of those events because they were beautiful and I really want to share them.  So I’m really going to do my best to blog one every week  or so for awhile.

But I’m also just going to just jump to the present and start posting what we’re working on now, instead of adding it to a queue that may never get smaller.  So here we go, 2012.

And what better way to start than with our first wedding of 2012, Chelsea and Edwin.  They married in a beautiful ceremony at Mercury Hall here in Austin.  It was intimate, it was personal, and it was all about their family and friends.  For me, it was really also all about them.  They’re one of those couples where you can see just how in love they are with every interaction they have.

Congratulations, you guys!

Oh my God you guys, I’m so far behind on my blogging.  In yet another case of an outside publication scooping my own blog, Reiko + Sean’s wedding from last July — you heard me right — July, is published today at essence.com.

I promise I’m going to blog this wedding soon, because it was freaking awesome.  In the meantime, you can get a preview over at essence.

We were privileged to be a part of Sandhya and Gaurav’s wedding in January.  It was a stunning event that we can’t wait to share with you.

Their day was jam-packed with activities. That’s not an exaggeration.  For Amy and me it was a 17-hour day, and the couple started earlier and finished later than us, so I  think it was literally a 24-hour wedding.  The schedule didn’t leave a lot of time for a typical day-of portrait session, which is something we normally try to keep as part of the wedding day.  Sometimes though, it’s just really difficult to get everything in.  So Sandhya and Gaurav made the excellent decision to do their portrait session ahead of time.  We did this day-after session way back in October.  I’ve been keeping a lid on them until the wedding was over, but man am I glad to be able to share them now.

Sandhya and Gaurav met and started their relationship while they were both attending UT Austin, so they wanted to use it as a backdrop for their session.  It’s such a pretty campus, and I think it served as the perfect surrounding for their beautiful traditional Indian attire.

Sarah + Steve have become really special to us over the past year.  My first memory of them is when we first met them at consultation before they hired us.  We met for gelato on a really beautiful spring night, and started chatting.  The chat turned into a two hour conversation and at the end of the chat Sarah told us that She’d get started thinking about places to do their engagement shoot, and let us know some dates they had open.

When Amy and I got in the car to leave, I looked over at her and said, wait did we just get hired?

There really was never a moment of decision.  Sometime in that first two-hour chat it just became understood the we were going to photograph their wedding.  And so it’s been with Sarah and Steve ever since.  We’ve met for drinks, we’ve bonded over our mutual love of puppies. We share restaurant and hangout recommendations.  Amy spent several evenings over at Sarah’s with her and her bridesmaids making reception decorations and party favors.

We are so happy for these two, I can’t even tell you.  They are two wonderful people who are perfect when they’re together, and we’re lucky to know them.  Sometimes weddings are a little bittersweet for us, because we know we may not see much of the couple as they move on from their wedding and start their lives together.  With Sarah and Steve we’re just happy.  Happy for their wedding, and happy the wedding is over so we can just get on with being friends.

Congratulations Sarah + Steve.  We’re so happy for you, and we’ll see you on Sunday.

OH WAIT. Did I mention, we’re also happy about these photos?  Sarah is a genius.  She has a really great career, that I’m trying very hard to get her to leave so she can plan and style weddings that I can photograph.  This wedding makes me swoon.  And I’m a dude. I’m not going to try and describe it for you, because I’ve got photos instead.

Natalie + Matt got married in September at Vintage Villas over looking what’s left of Lake Travis.  We were a little disheartened when we got to the venue and saw the state of the lake, which is normally gorgeous and was to be the backdrop for the whole event.  This drought has wreaked its havoc on all of our lakes, and the water was so far down, it looked like nothing more than a muddy puddle out in the distance, surrounded by barren lakebed.

Turned out all my worry was for nothing.  This wedding was so pretty, It didn’t need the lake.  It was a gorgeous sunny day, and they timed their ceremony to be a beautiful sunset affair.  And Natalie looked Hollywood stunning.

We loved working with Natalie + Matt. We enjoyed every second we spent with them.  they’re incredibly funny and just full of life.   I mean, check out the couple portraits. That’s all them. Their friends, it turns out, are just as great.  This was one of the most entertaining receptions we’ve been to.  I’ve never seen so much dancing in my life.  Of course, it helped that the photo booth was right next to the dance floor.  Within about five minutes, I’m not sure there were any props left at the photo booth.  They were all on the dance floor.

Yep, we pretty much adore this couple. Maybe you remember the story where we asked them to move in with us.  They still haven’t taken us up on the offer, but we’re so happy for them anyway.

Hi there!

welcome to the new nrp blog.  It’s really the old nrp blog.  All of our old posts are here.  We just moved everything over here.  Thanks for making the leap with us!

There are a few things missing from this new blog, including tags, and the much-loved Facebook like button, along with a bunch of other stuff you probably won’t miss.  We decided to build this new blog from the ground up, and to simplify it a lot.  We’re simple people.  We like simple. Some of the things we’re working to bring back to this blog as quickly as we can.  Things like social media buttons we hope to have back soon.  In the meantime, We love the new look.  We hope you do too.

Welcome!

nathan

Today marks the first time ever that I’ve blogged every single image from an engagement shoot.

Okay, well maybe not every image. But I had a hard time narrowing this shoot down to my favorites. I love these photos. I love this couple. They were so much fun to work with. They just owned the camera, and gave me everything a wedding photographer could want. Stylish. Cute. Silly. Sweet. Romantic. It’s all here. Enjoy.
